More To Choose From

I got the application form for the flat with the shower today... and it made grim reading. It's asking for all kinds of references that I can't give so that they can check my financial history. I'm not pleased, not because I have a bad financial record, but because I don't have former landlords, or employees who can give that kind of information. Therefore, I can't really fill the form in...

Sensing this, Your Move and KRL both called me this morning! That's right, two calls in one morning! So now I have another two flats to view on Tuesday, so I might not need to fill that form in...

They Replied!

Shock of all shocks - Not one, but two letting agents replied to message within a couple of hours of each other! Hello to Laura at Your Move and Sue at Maltby's...

So anyway, I viewed both flats yesterday, and it's hard to choose between them. The first one was amazing on the inside, lovely decor, perfect size... but it had no shower and was up a very, very steep hill (I'm not a fan of hills); and the second one, not as lovely on the inside, pretty much average to be honest, but was fairly large for it's size, had a shower (the first flat I've viewed that has one) and a fully fitted kitchen. The only real downer there was the fact it is above a funeral parlour...

So really it's a choice between a shower and a steep hill...

No real contest in the end...

Still Flat Hunting...

It just goes on and on and on...

As if finding a suitable flat wasn't hard enough, finding letting agents that return your calls and emails is even harder. I've been completely ignored by Coles & Co and Linda Matthews... So yesterday I've tried to get in touch with another three agents; KRL, Maltbys and Your Move. Let's hope they are politer than the others... Or at least more eager to rent their properties...

A Dear Old Friend

I found an old friend yesterday, and not just any old friend...

I went to 6 different primary schools, and the 4th one, Aycliffe Drive in Hemel Hempstead, was my favourite. I started there just before christmas in Year 1, and left at the end of year 3 when the 'rents decided to relocate to Margate.

One of the girls in that school, who was in my class in Years 2 and 3, well what can I say about her? She was cute, no doubt about that, but she was so annoying! She used to follow me around and even blow kisses at me (the only girl to ever do that, by the way)... But she was great, and until yesterday I've been missing her for the best part of 12 years.

Facebook is a wonderful thing, and I found her on there! I'm so happy! Only problem though is I'll never get to meet her again, because she moved to Brisbane 9 years ago. That's a shame, I really hoped I could meet her, but hey, I found her and I can talk to her, and I can't have everything...

Selfishness

My mum is getting more and more selfish as the days unfold. Today she told a blatant lie down the phone to some friend of hers: "I'm so happy for him [me] that he [me] is going to Chatham". What she actually meant is that she is happy for herself that I am going to Chatham, because this means she can keep visiting me...

And not just me. This friend lives in Chatham too, and she and this friend have had very sordid phone conversations before, and as I heard her say to him, she'll be able to visit him more too. Therefore, she is more pleased for herself that I am going to Chatham than she is pleased for me.

While I'm on selfishness, my youngest sister has started taking over an hour in the bathroom! There are 6 of us living in this house, which has only one bathroom. So to go in there first thing in the morning when everyone else is getting up and getting ready for the day ahead, and then taking an hour is so selfish! She actually had the nerve to whinge at me this morning because just as she was about to go in there, I popped in there to take a leak. I took less than a minute, she took over an hour, but I was getting in her way, and next time I should wait so that she isn't late... She's only gone to the zoo, how can you be late for that?

Flats...

I viewed 2 flats in Hunters Court in Gillingham this afternoon, and between them they had no showers... Apparently fitting showers causes leaks, and therefore any washing machine I decide I require would have to plumbed in by professionals, at extra charge of course...

So I won't be moving in there, which is a shame, because it is ideally located for the uni campus. Looks like I'm going to have to get a flat further away from the campus, and therefore have to walk some distance first thing in the morning to get to lectures...

Marathon

I've applied to run the London Marathon in 2010! I've entered the public ballot along with 120,000 other people for the 20,000 spaces available, meaning I have a 1 in 6 chance of getting in the race... Or do I?

I also applied directly to the RNIB, a charity for blind people, to run the race for them, as there are 12,000 reserved spaces for charity runners. They have confirmed to me that I am on their list of reserve runners. This doesn't entitle me to a place in the race outright, but it does increase my chances when the public ballot results are drawn in September...

Many of the people who have applied directly to a charity would also have entered the public ballot too. Now if a charity selects their runners, and then some of these selected runners get public ballot places, these runners would technically have two places in the race, so the charity drops them from their team and offer the newly available places to their reserve runners...

My maths isn't great, but I think that shortens my odds to 2 in 11! I'm pleased with that!
